Project Name: Rogue River Trail Phase I
Owner: City of Rockford, Michigan
Date Completed: 2005
Construction Cost: $155,000.00
Contact: Michael Young, City Manager

This project involved the development of a setting area that is nestled between residential properties and the Rogue River. Public input and opposition were two critical elements that were addressed through the design and construction of this project.
This phase of the Rogue River Trail System, nearly 1,700 feet, ties into the State’s White Pine Trail and traverses down steep banks into a park area where one can enjoy a softball facility and picnic and sitting areas. The trail was designed to be accessible/barrier free allowing the park amenities to be enjoyed by all.
A key feature that was incorporated to this park was the addition of two observation/fishing decks which take advantage of the incredible fishing opportunities the Rogue River provides.

Paradigm Design provided surveying, schematic design and layout options, horizontal and vertical alignment design, structural engineering, construction cost estimates, construction drawings and specifications. Design challenges included path layout that was welcomed by most residents in the area, grading the path to meet accessibility requirements while minimizing tree removal, fill within the MDEQ Floodplain and strategically placing two fishing platforms along the river.

Paradigm Design provided the Owner with both Contract Administration and Construction Engineering Services. Contract Administration included the preconstruction meeting, preparing construction pay estimates, preparing change orders and project close out. Construction Engineering Services included staking, inspection at key milestones, and periodic testing.
