Designing a facility that suits current needs and budget while allowing for potential growth, including the transition from part-time to full-time fire fighters and the addition of another apparatus bay
Creating a look for the building that will give downtown Walker its own identity and be the focal point of the community
Developing a master plan that includes such amenities as a bus stop, a future free-standing community center, a library, a plaza and benches in front of the station, and a connection to Cummings Park to the north of the site.
Because of the importance of the look of this new fire station, much thought and time has gone into its design.  Many design meetings have been held with the City and the Walker public has even been brought in to participate in design charrettes (workshops).  The City is currently evaluating the benefits of a LEED certified building and including a green space for community functions such as art festivals and community carnivals.
